![]() ![]() Back to the S6, every combination of moving the modules around is just a compromise in ergonomics compared to what is already a great solution with the D-command. I've even made a great default for Fabfilters ProQ3 that is laid out perfectly with the icon controllers. ![]() The knobs are always in the same place and do what you expect them to do, as long as the plugin developers abide by the layout, which many still do. OK, the S6 has some colors and some fancy display thingies that aren't THAT useful, and it can do some interesting things with grouping faders, but it drops the ball for me completely when it comes to ergonomics and "having what I need in front of me." One of the most brilliant things with the Icons is the EQ and Dynamics panels. I'm still waiting for any Avid rep to prove me wrong. the S6 is not a better controller when it comes to the real world needs of mixing, hands on eq, dynamics, sends, faders, VCAs, "what I need in front of me all the time." Not to mention the flimsy feeling of the S6. Perhaps that is just part of the evolution, but I totally expect the same will happen with the end of ICON support. They skip the hardware, and end up investing 1/10th the amount in Pro Tools compared to the previous decade. So many users just never seemed to make the transition from old hardware to new hardware at all. I feel like the catalyst for that change was the dumping of TDM hardware. Those kinds of comments would have been unheard of 15 years ago. He even suggested that users start learning new DAWs as soon as they can, so they don't have to do it under the considerable pressure of delivering a job for a client. Interestingly, George Massenburg made a comment on Gearspace a few weeks back about how he now uses four DAW applications regularly. Every year something comes up that has people saying all these people are going to leave PT as a result, but they never do. They still do work on Rosetta and on Windows, so it won't be as big a deal for some as it is for others. Equipment evolves and people move on, it's great they've run for this long after becoming non supported hardware. If your business is based around Pro Tools and working with other studios like the post industry is, you're not gonna switch to Luna. It's a great effort for what it does, but you can do an awful more with Eucon. Exact shipping to be determined with correct address, but this is about what I paid to get them from NYC and LA to Nashville, so that’s a close estimate.Id switch to an S1 Dock combo rather than V-control. ![]() Shipping plus insurance in the continental US is approx $250 per unit/$750 total. If interested in separate modules, the Main Unit and XMON are $1850 cash ($1925 credit) and the 2 fader packs are $1400 cash each ($1450 credit). Price for the entire console is $3950 cash, or $4150 for credit card/Paypal. I will include the custom built stand for local pickup only - no shipping potential for the stand! All channel strip scribble strips are 100%. Has never caused an issue for me, as it’s down on fader 38-40 on the top encoder row. There are 2 channel strip encoder displays that are intermittent in their display. All knobs in the master EQ/DYN/MON section function 100%. Super fast, and I don’t even think about it anymore. These can’t be cleaned or repairs without replacing the entire control board, so I just use fader flip to access the functions needed. There are 2-5 knobs on channel strips out of the 101 total knobs that lose touch sensitivity. As a workaraound, I just jump into utilities mode, hit fader recal, and they are good to go again for a few days. It’s prob 8-12 out of the 40 that need some love. I cleaned everything a year ago and it was great. Not motor or band issues, just dirty caps or tracks. a few faders need to be cleaned as they have intermittent sensitivity. Overall it’s in great shape, but here are the negatives for full disclosure: Video of VEGAS MODE shows that everything is functioning properly. It’s about 7’ long and weighs about 165 lbs. This console makes for great workflow and speed, as well as a super professional looking centerpiece. I purchased the main unit from a big post house in NYC, and the 2 fader packs from a famous sound designer in LA… all well cared for. Internal and external talkback as well as listen back mic circuit. XMON monitoring gives you (2) 5.1 inputs, (3) Stereo inputs, (2) Stereo Cue sends, (2) sets of 5.1 or stereo speakers plus 1 set of minis. Just pulled it last week running great on the most current Pro Tools Ultimate 2019.12. These are old, but still used in huge studios and film mix rooms to this day. Mixing or tracking, this is a wonderful addition. If you’ve ever used one, you know how flexible and fast it is for any workflow you need. This is a fantastic beast!! It’s been the centerpiece of my studio for about 5 years. ![]()
